Kids' Marketplace

Hosted by: Sarah Vegtosky Sigmon

Wednesday,  noon - 3pm

( room will be available for setting up your items,

starting at 8am)

Kids can set up a display of their own creations. They can then trade with each other, or sell for real money (parents may want to help their younger children set appropriate prices, or not).  (Kids can even just give stuff away if they want to.)  Kids can show and be proud of their creativity and skill, and even make some fun money!  Grown-ups can also shop at the Kids' Marketplace.

Here are some possible creations one might find in a Kids' Marketplace: paintings or drawings (original or copies), greeting cards (remember that Valentine's Day will be coming up), hand-made paper, jewelry, candles, soap, picture frames, knitted/crocheted items, tie-dyed stuff, balloon-animals, etc...)  Also if a child plays an instrument or sings they can bring Cd's of themselves (bring a pen for autographs, too).  Or if a child writes poetry or stories, they can bring copies of their work to sell.  Kids can also offer services, like fortune telling or portrait drawing or hair-braiding.

Advertisements - If they want to, kids or their parents can post (on the YahooGroup UWWG site) an ad for what they will be selling.  That way, we can all get an idea of what we'll find at the Marketplace, and can start planning what to get our friends and family for Valentine's Day, upcoming birthdays, and Fairy Godparents gifts! (This would also help me know how many kids are planning to set up a shop....so I can make sure there are enough tables or at least floor space).

Signs - If they want to, kids can make a sign or banner, or whatever, to attract shoppers to their table. You can make these at home in preparation, or I'll have paper, crayons, glue, and tape in the room Wednesday morning for making signs.  Kids can be creative and have fun with this...give your shop a name if you want to! We're playing "marketplace", but it's also a real marketplace! There will be an area to hang up signs during the days before the Marketplace, to "advertise".

Setting-up - The room will be open before the Marketplace begins, so kids can set up.  Tables and chairs will be provided.  Kids with items for sale or trade should plan on staying at the Marketplace while it's going on, or at least a representative (basically, someone to take the money for any sales, or to answer questions). If he or she wants to just leave a box for money and use the honor-system, that's up to the individual, but no one else is responsible for keeping an eye on stuff.

Toy Trading/Selling- There has also been some interest in the trading and selling of used toys.  These items are welcome, too! There will be a Leave-an-item/Take-an-item table, and also kids can set up shop on tables or blankets, and have there own garage sale!
